As I delve further and further into the abortion debate, I see more and more fallacies in the pro-“life” argument. Today’s example is in the case of incest or rape. When a person states that he or she does not believe in abortion, the route to take is: a) “well that’s what YOU believe” and follow down the route to the other person stating “abortion is murder, why can’t I just take out a gun and shoot so-and-so”, in which case you would defend the absence of personhood position - or b) go down the “what about cases of incest and rape” route. There are other ways to go about it, but I find this is the most interesting, in that it has the most interesting replies. It always puzzles me that people say they would make an exception for cases of incest and rape, which begs the question: what makes a fetus conceived out of incest or rape worth less than a fetus conceived from consensual sex? And then these pro-lifers are faced with the same question they hide behind: who are they to determine what a life is worth? Who are they to say that one life is more important or should be more valued than others?
The funny part? No one ever has an answer.
